Dine Under The Stars — Recolté: Local Harvest Dinner Pop Up

What: Recolté: Local Harvest Dinner Pop Up features an elegant four-course menu and liquor, wine and champagne provided by Moët & Chandon, all while you’re being served in a heated Garden Dome. The Calgary pop-up will be located at the Deane House Gardens.

Red Bull Outliers 2019

What: For the first time ever in Canada, Calgary will be playing host to a city centre motorsports competition. The Red Bull Outliers enduro competition will pit motorcross athletes against one another in a race on a custom closed obstacle track, which will be built by Calgary’s own Shane Cuthbertson. The event will run from September 28 to 29, though the second day of competition will be held two hours east near Dinosaur Provincial Park in Steveville.

Fall at Calgary Farmyard

What: There are many events to enjoy this fall at Calgary Farmyard, including an 11 acre corn maze, petting zoo, playground, and more. Plus there are Flashlight Nights in the Maze every Friday and Saturday starting September 20, and a Pumpkin Festival every Saturday and Sunday starting October 5.

Railway Days at Heritage Park

What: As one of the only sites in North America that have two steam locomotives on site, Heritage Park and CP Rail invite you for a weekend of demonstrations, hands-on activities, exciting exhibits, and anything train related. Go on a tour, listen to live storytelling, go on a caboose ride, and more.

Heritage Inn International Balloon Festival

What: Just 45 minutes south of Calgary, High River is home to the Heritage Inn International Balloon Festival, a celebration of hot air balloons and the opportunity to see the big balloons in action. On Friday, September 27, attendees can experience Balloon Night Glow from 5 to 9 pm, when hot air balloons will be lit up against the night sky. Food trucks will also be on scene for the festival.

The Wedding Party

What: Written by Canadian playwright Kristen Thomson and directed by Darcy Evans, The Wedding Party promises to have “an outrageous wedding reception [that] spins out of control in real-time.” The comedy is about the two characters Sherry and Jack Jr.’s wedding, but will see the clash of the two families at the reception: “the well-to-do Sealey-Skeetes and the hard-working, hard-living Boychuks,” according to a release.

The comedy runs for approximately two hours and 20 minutes. A pre-show onstage bar opens from 6:30 to 7:30 pm — where wedding attire is highly encouraged. Audience members are warned that the play contains sexuality and coarse language and is suggested for those 16-years-old and older.

From Racialization to Peoplehood: Exploring Métis Identity, Past and Present

What: Lougheed House’s summer exhibit explores Métis identity from a number of perspectives, both historical and contemporary.

YYC Pizza Week

What: A 10-day annual event featuring participating restaurants creating an original pizza to see whose is the best. Partial proceeds from all pizza goes to Calgary Meals on Wheels.  More than 40 restaurants and the community have raised over $42,000 in the past five years.

Doors Open YYC

What: Calgary businesses are opening their doors to the general public for the eighth year in a row as Doors Open YYC returns for 2019. The event allows Calgarians to play tourist in their own city for free as local businesses let the public take a look at what goes on in their operations.
