We’re officially in restaurant and bar awards season! The list of Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants for 2025 has just dropped, with plenty of recognition for Calgary’s incredible food scene.

Five Calgary restaurants have been recognized on the prestigious list, which is produced with the help of around 150 judges, including food writers and critics, chefs, restaurateurs and informed culinary enthusiasts from across Canada, who are involved in the voting process.

The number of judges in each province is proportional to its population, and each judge is tasked with voting for restaurants based on the complete dining experience, from service to décor, the depth of the cellar and, most importantly, food quality.

This year, Eight, the renowned eight-seater restaurant that showcases Canadian cuisine, was the highest-ranking Calgary restaurant, breaking into the top 10 and placing at number six.

The top half of the list also featured Nupo, an Omakase sushi bar, at 30, and the stunning River Cafe in Prince’s Island Park at 47.

One of the newest additions to the prestigious list is DOPO, the reimagined concept from the team behind D.O.P. Although it only opened in November 2024, the spot ranked 56.

The Italian-influenced restaurant is also on the accompanying list of best new restaurants for 2025.

The final Calgary spot highlighted on the list is Shokunin, a Japanese-influenced restaurant that placed at 74.

Just a short drive away in Canmore is the only other Alberta restaurant to make the 100 list. Ankor, which focuses on contemporary Canadian cuisine, came in at 23.

Calgary restaurants weren’t the only recognized institutions either, as a separate list of Canada’s 50 Best Bars highlighted several spots including Missy’s This That (8), Proof (16), Paper Lantern (24), Rain Dog Bar (35), Shelter (45), and Business & Pleasure (46).

The top-ranked restaurant across the country was Restaurant Pearl Morisette in Jordan Station, Ont.
