Two Aquatic Centres in Calgary are seeing their last summer.
The Beltline Aquatics and Fitness Centre and the Inglewood Aquatic Centre will both be closing their doors come the new year, as notices on the City of Calgary’s website state that January 1, 2020, will mark an end to their services.

Both notices cite the ageing conditions of the facilities, along with “changing citizen preferences,” as factors in the eventual closures.
The notices also provide information on Renfrew Aquatic Centre, Bob Bahan Aquatic and Fitness Centre, and Killarney Aquatic and Recreation Centre as possible alternatives to Beltline and Inglewood.
The Repsol Sport Centre and Gray Family Eau Claire YMCA also feature city sport and recreation services.
A Change.org petition has been created calling for Calgary city council to reevaluate the decision to close the two facilities, stating that “we know the desire and capacity to support them exists, and we need to give these facilities a fighting chance.”
“Let city council know that these pools are integral recreational facilities and gathering places for Calgarians, now and in future, and they deserve proper funding and support.”
As of Tuesday morning, the petition had received just over 1,000 signatures.
