Travel may be less of a hassle at YYC Calgary Airport with a big new upgrade

Travelling through the YYC Calgary Airport could soon be less stressful as a major expansion to its domestic security screening area is now complete.
Calgary International Airport has opened two additional security screening lanes at its ABC Security checkpoint, bringing the total number of lanes to nine.
The expansion is expected to help more passengers get through security faster, with the checkpoint now able to screen approximately 1,800 to 1,980 passengers per hour, an increase of more than 70 per cent compared to the airport’s previous domestic screening setup before the end of 2025.
The ABC Security area first opened in December 2025 with seven screening lanes, bringing three previously separate domestic security checkpoints together into one centralized area.

“This next stage is about making a part of the airport journey every domestic traveller experiences more efficient so that folks can spend less time in line and more time relaxing before they travel,” said Chris Miles, chief operating officer for Calgary Airports.
“With all nine lanes now open, we have greater flexibility to meet demand and more space to create a comfortable, welcoming experience.”
Since opening, more than 3.7 million travellers have passed through the screening area, and the latest expansion is expected to help accommodate the growing number of people travelling through YYC.
All nine screening lanes use the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority’s enhanced CT X-ray technology, which allows guests to keep large electronics like laptops and medical devices, as well as permitted liquids, gels, and aerosols, in their bags, rather than having to remove them.
The centralized screening area was designed to make the experience more comfortable for travellers, with clearer sightlines, more room to move around, and dedicated support for those who may need additional assistance.
ABC Security is located on the departures level of the airport, between doors four and six, and can be accessed by passengers flying with any airline.
