Brookefield Place has been told to implement a Public Protection Site Safety Plan by the City of Calgary’ Safety Response Unit (SRU) due to the falling glass that closed a portion of downtown on Monday.

Because of the high winds, the city has closed sidewalks and the left hand lane on 6th Avenue SW from 1st Sreet SW to 2nd Street SW.

Two right hand lanes on 1st Street SW from 7th Avenue S to 6th Avenue S have also been closed due to safety concerns.

The remaining lanes are now a two-way traffic setup, according a release from the City of Calgary. These closures will remain in effect until the area is proven safe.

Additional precautions will be placed on Brookefield Place, including a protective coating on adjacent windows – though crews cannot yet apply the coating due to the current high winds.
