A popular Alberta spot just earned some global recognition after being named one of the best winter destinations in the world.
Outside Magazine just released its list of the best winter destinations in the world, and Lake Louise found itself on the ranking beside destinations like Lakeland, Finland, and South Central Alaska.

Described as the “ultimate all-around winter playground,” the ranking noted the three main ski resorts in the area: Banff Sunshine, Mt. Norquay, and the Lake Louise Ski Resort, as top destinations only an hour and a half from the Calgary International Airport.
It also mentioned the newly opened Richardson Ridge, a 200-acre terrain park located at the Lake Louise Ski Resort.
Apart from its amazing ski resorts, it was also included on the list due to the abundance of activities you can do in the area, like the Johnston Canyon hike to frozen waterfalls, Banff’s Nightrise gondola up Sulpher Mountain, Radventures tours available around the region, and, of course, northern lights spotting.

“Canada’s first national park is home to some of the darkest skies in North America, which makes it ideal for spotting the northern lights.”
Accommodations were also a big selling point, noting the new Kenrick Hotel in Banff, complete with a hydrotherapy spa with a saltwater pool and the “castle-like” Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, and its brand new Basin Glacial Waters that opened earlier this year.
Lake Louise was the only Canadian destination to make the list, which is pretty impressive!
Other locations on the list included Zermatt, Switzerland, Furano, Japan, and Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
