If you’re looking for a neighbourly spot to settle down, three towns near Calgary have just been recognized for being some of the most neighbourly communities in the province.
World Atlas, one of the largest publishing resources in geography, released its list of the six most neighbourly towns in Alberta, and Canmore, Drumheller, and Fort Macleod all made the cut.
If you’re looking for amazing mountain scenery, Canmore, located around an hour and 20 minutes west of Calgary, was recognized for its blend of small-town charm with a vibrant arts scene. It was also touted for its stunning mountain views and abundance of outdoor activities, without the crowds found in other popular mountain destinations in Alberta.

Over in Drumheller, it was highlighted for its one-of-a-kind badlands landscape and strong paleontology roots that help bring the town together. The town is home to the renowned Royal Tyrrell Museum, which draws visitors from around the world and plays a key role in the community.

“Whether you’re visiting for its prehistoric history or its unique landscapes, Drumheller offers an experience unlike anywhere else in Alberta, making it one of the province’s most fascinating communities to explore,” World Atlas says.
Further south, Fort Macleod earned recognition for its deep historical roots and well-preserved downtown. Originally established as a North West Mounted Police (NWMP) outpost in 1874, the town is home to attractions like the Fort Museum of the NWMP and the Empress Theatre, one of the oldest operating theatres in Canada.
