There are plenty of charming downtowns to visit across Alberta, and two spots have just been named among the best in the entire Rockies.
World Atlas, one of the largest publishing resources in geography, released its list of the 11 best downtowns in the Rockies, and two Alberta spots made the cut.
The Rockies consist of 100 separate ranges that are divided into four broad categories: the Canadian Rockies, the Northern Rockies, the Middle Rockies, and the Southern Rockies. They are spread out across British Columbia and Alberta, all the way down to New Mexico, U.S.
First up on the list was Banff, with the Montreal-based publisher tapping the iconic mountain town’s downtown core for its dazzling Banff Avenue, complete with stunning mountain views, numerous restaurants, bars, outdoor equipment, and other retail stores.
The small town nestled within Banff National Park is no stranger to national and international recognition, having recently been named the most tranquil destination in Canada.

The second downtown core in the Alberta Rockies to make the list was none other than Canmore, which sits just east of Banff.
When it comes to Canmore, World Atlas touted its “easy access to nature,” with a highlight being Policeman’s Creek Boardwalk. Main Street being turned into a pedestrian-only zone in the summer months also got a big thumbs up, with the move allowing residents and visitors alike to enjoy the restaurants, bars, and shops situated downtown.
