
A company in an Alberta town is getting some national recognition, being named among the top employers in Canada.
This list comes from Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers, an annual editorial competition, now in its 13th year, that recognizes small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
āCanada’s SME sector is tremendously important to the nation and is responsible for over two-thirds of the countryās private-sector employment.ā
The employers are evaluated using eight criteria: workplace, work atmosphere, benefits, vacation and time off, employee communications, performance management, training, and community involvement.

Headquartered in Strathmore, a town with a population of over 16,000, More Than Just Feed Inc. employs more than 160 people and was named to the list thanks to offering flex credits that can be allocated to a health spending account or a lifestyle spending account to cover fitness-related expenses, education and personal development.
Other spots to be named some of the best small and medium employers in Canada include 10 companies in Calgary and a handful in Edmonton, too.
Strathmore is approximately 52 kilometres east of Calgary.
To determine eligibility, the editors adopted the SME definition used by Statistics Canada: companies must (a) have fewer than 500 employees worldwide, including any affiliated companies; and (b) be a commercial, for-profit enterpriseānon-profit organizations are not considered SMEs. Any eligible employer in Canada may apply to the competition.
