
Three small and medium-sized Edmonton employers have been named among the top in Canada.
The results are from Mediacorp Canada’s Top Small & Medium employers, the 13th year of an annual competition that recognizes small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
“Canada’s SME sector is tremendously important to the nation and is responsible for over two-thirds of the country’s private-sector employment,” the website says.
These are the Edmonton employers that made the grade. The ranking shares some of the ways these companies reward and communicate with their employees.

Riva International Inc.
Riva International, which has 107 full-time employees, matches RSP contributions and provides referral bonuses for employees up to $1,000 per successful hire. It also offers amenities like an employee lounge and hosts team gatherings and special events. It also supports employee development through paid internships, formal mentoring, and tuition subsidies for courses related and not directly related to their position.
The Silvacom Group
This 135-employee business celebrates performance with gift card appreciation awards and offers an opportunity employees to travel all expenses paid to Africa with the company’s CEO to visit classroom projects funded by the company. In addition, the company offers referral bonuses and promotes physical and social well-being through seasonal outdoor activities ranging from cross-country skiing to horseback riding.
Translational Research in Oncology (TRIO)
With 138 full-time employees, TRIO supports parents with maternity and parental leave top-up payments, and employees can apply to extend their leave into an unpaid leave of absence. It also celebrates employee milestones and encourages employees to save with matching RSP contributions.
