YMCA Calgary and Calgary Public Library have unveiled plans for a new joint-use recreation centre and library in Calgary’s West District.

The proposed facility would be located along Broadcast Avenue SW and 80th Street SW, across from Radio Park, which opened in September 2025

It’s set to feature a 60,000 sq. ft. recreation centre and a 9,000 sq. ft. public library, along with over 200 underground parking spaces, and integrated access to Radio Park and its amenities.

The recreation centre would include a seven-lane 25-metre pool, a leisure pool, a gymnasium, fitness studios, and multi-purpose rooms. The library portion would feature children’s areas, reading spaces, and meeting rooms.

“Investment in recreation centres and libraries is critical to addressing some of the most pressing issues facing our community, including rising physical inactivity, social isolation, and unemployment,” said Shannon Doram, president and CEO of YMCA Calgary, in a release.

“By working together with the Library and our partners, we can create a welcoming, inclusive facility that meets the needs of a thriving community within a growing city.”

Calgary-based developer Truman has committed to donating the land for the project, while the City of Calgary has approved $3 million in funding to support detailed design and planning. The estimated cost for the project is $120 million.

Whether the facility gets the green light on construction depends on investment from all three levels of government as well as philanthropic partners.

If given the go-ahead, YMCA Calgary says the facility will be construction-ready once full capital funding is secured, and the completed project will serve over 41,000 households within a 12-minute drive.

Another library and recreation centre is already in the works in Calgary, with the Belmont Fieldhouse and Library set to open in 2027.
