It’s a sad day in Calgary as one of the city’s most notable music venues and nightclubs appears to have quietly closed its doors.

While The Back Alley has not publicly announced its closure, the Macleod Trail venue has been listed as permanently closed on Google.

In its final Instagram post on April 19, The Back Alley made no reference to an impending closure. However, Calgarians have since taken to the comments to express confusion over the sudden departure.

“Are you guys closing????” one commenter asked.

Others were seeking information on whether they would receive refunds for tickets to upcoming events scheduled to be held in the space.

The Back Alley is an institution in Calgary, operating for over 25 years before an initial closure in 2013. The spot reopened in December 2019, but was forced to close due to the pandemic in 2020.

It then eventually opened its doors to the public once more in 2021, hosting hundreds of events including foam parties, themed nights and Stampede concerts.

Dished has reached out to The Back Alley for comment and has not received a response in time for publication.
