While the 1910s are now 100 years in the past, photos still remain of how Calgary looked when the world was gripped by (what was then considered) the Great War.

Many Calgarians volunteered to join in the fight, with some never making their way home again at war’s end on November 11, 1918.

Here’s a quick look at the land and people they fought for during WWI.
