Domestic travel in Canada is seeing a boom, and a new report has revealed that one Alberta destination is getting some serious love from Canadians.
Airbnb has put out a report that found nearly every province and territory is experiencing growth in bookings this year.
Canmore has made the top five trending destinations in Canada right now and is the only Alberta destination to appear on the list. West Kelowna in B.C. took the top spot, followed by Regina, Sask.; Gatineau, Que.; Langley, B.C.; and Whistler, B.C.

Each destination offers something unique, reflecting a growing desire in Canadians to explore both urban and rural parts of the country. From the scenic lakefronts of West Kelowna to the breathtaking mountain escapes of Canmore, travellers are discovering a wide range of experiences across Canada.
Canmore is no stranger to the spotlight, with the town being named a top “detour destination” in the world by Expedia last year and getting a shoutout from Hollywood A-lister Pedro Pascal for one delicious reason while filming the HBO hit series The Last of Us a couple of years ago.
Airbnb reports that while the majority of bookings in Canada were already domestic, 12 of 13 provinces and territories saw a 10 percent increase in Canadian bookings within the country compared to last year.
Provinces such as Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and Saskatchewan all experienced the largest increase, with over 20 percent year-over-year growth in domestic bookings.
While domestic travel is on the rise, Canadians are also showing more interest in international destinations outside of the United States. Trips to countries such as Japan, Brazil, France, Thailand, and Mexico are reflecting a nearly double-digit increase in international bookings compared to 2024.
