Travelbag, a U.K.-based travel agency, has released its list of 2025’s most tranquil travel destinations, and Banff made its way into the top five and claimed the top spot in Canada.
The ranking reflects a growing trend in travellers wanting to experience “calmcations,” a term used to describe vacations that prioritize peace and calmness over jam-packed adventures and itineraries.
In order to determine the world’s most tranquil destinations, they compiled a list of 36 locations across the world and ranked the top 15 based on four key data points: noise and light pollution, cleanliness, quality of green and parks, and travel congestion.
Banff emerged as the highest-rated Canadian destination on the list and claimed the fifth spot overall. It was noted for its stunning green spaces and exceptional cleanliness.

Queenstown, N.Z., took the top spot, being recognized for its natural beauty and pristine environment and having the highest cleanliness score on the list at 91.7. It was followed by Seychelles, in second, Cairns, Australia, in third and Kyoto, Japan, in fourth place.
With Banff now being recognized as one of the most tranquil destinations, it continues to cement its reputation as a must-visit getaway and one of the most popular destinations in Canada.
