It may be a snow-filled Thanksgiving long weekend for some parts of Alberta, with snowfall warnings and special weather statements issued Friday afternoon.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a flurry of snowfall warnings and special weather statements for a significant portion of western Alberta, stretching down from the Grande Cache area to the U.S. border.

The snowfall warning stated that five to 20 cm of snow is expected, depending on location. Rain is expected to change over to snow between midday Saturday and Saturday evening and continue through Saturday night.
“Snowfall may be heavy at times, which would reduce visibility,” ECCC stated, while light snow is expected on Sunday.
The highest snowfall amounts are expected to be over the Icefields Parkway, where up to 20 cm of snow may fall in some locations. High snowfall accumulations are also possible over some mountain hiking trails.
Forecasters noted that nearly 10 cm of snow may fall over some other travel routes through the Rockies, including portions of the Trans-Canada Highway, which may make Thanksgiving weekend travel hazardous.
Nearly five cm of snow is expected over the townsites of Banff and Canmore. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult in some locations.
Neither Edmonton nor Calgary is under any sort of weather watch, warning, or special statement; however, YEG is set to see a serious temperature change, as are residents of YYC, over the Thanksgiving long weekend.
