If you have children or have some on the way, a company based in Alberta has been named one of the best family-friendly employers in Canada.
Now in its 25th year, Canada’s Top Family-Friendly Employers looks at the best employers that help employees balance work and family commitments, and is one of the longest-running special designations within the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project.
The sole Alberta mention went to Calgary-based Canada Energy Regulator (CER), which has less than 600 full-time employees, and landed on the list thanks to providing up to five paid family leave days per year for family appointments and related responsibilities, as well as up to 15 paid sick days per year for personal illness.
The CER works to keep energy moving safely across the country, reviews energy development projects and shares energy information, all while enforcing some of the strictest safety and environmental standards in the world, its website stated.

Employers are evaluated by the editorial team based on a wide range of programs and initiatives, including maternity and parental leave, daycare assistance, paid personal and earned days off (EDO) programs, flexible work arrangements, compassionate leave, elder care assistance, adoption support, and reproductive assistance, such as fertility drugs and IVF. The competition also looks at academic bursaries for employees’ children and any other programs designed to address work-life balance challenges unique to each employer’s industry.
If you’re on the hunt for other companies in Alberta that have received some serious recognition, 10 small and medium Calgary companies were just named among the top in Canada, while three small and medium companies in Edmonton were spotlighted, too.
