Eating on the Calgary Stampede Midway is notoriously pricey, but if you know where to look, there are actually some bargains to be found.
We challenged ourselves to spend just $25 on Midway food while visiting the Calgary Stampede grounds, and it was certainly tricky.
After an initial scan of the Midway, we decided to grab a Breakfast Sandwich at AG Grill, which came in at the very reasonable $7.50, so we were off to a good start.
After spending almost half of our allowance on the first item, we were already angling for a sweet treat, so we headed off on our quest, making our way to a long-time Stampede favourite, the Milk & Cookies stand by the Nutrien Centre, which came to $3.
Our stomachs were a little fuller, but our pockets were lighter with just $14.50 left, and our food options were dwindling.
A long day of walking around the grounds meant we were hungry again pretty soon, and this time, we made our way over to Elbow River Camp to grab a Bannock Taco. At $13, this was a whole lot of food and seriously tasty, so we had no complaints there. However, this already takes us very close to our $25 mark.
Lastly, we went to check out the mini donuts. As we had $1.50 to still spend, we did splurge a bit, as one singular donut was $2. But what is Stampede without mini donuts? We grabbed one happily, and while our total for the day ended up being $25.50, we’re counting it as a win.
