It’s a wild start to the week, weather-wise, in Victoria.
Thousands of BC Hydro customers are without power as a wind storm slams into parts of Vancouver Island on Monday.
A wind warning is in effect for Greater Victoria, with Environment and Climate Change Canada saying gusts could potentially cause damage.
“A potent storm is bringing moderate to strong southeast winds to the Greater Victoria region this morning. These winds will shift to very strong westerlies later this morning. Winds will gradually ease tonight as the system moves to the east and weakens,” reads the warning.
The weather agency says strong west winds of 70 km/h, gusting to 90 km/h, will prevail throughout the day before they ease tonight.
Thousands without power
On southern Vancouver Island, more than 30,000 BC Hydro customers were without power as of noon on Monday.
