The Breakfast Shop brings bold new brunch vibes to Cook Street

A brand-new breakfast spot has just opened today in the familiar Cook Street space that once housed Bear & Joey: The Breakfast Shop.
This fresh venture brings together the creative forces behind four beloved local names: Chris Jones of The Ruby and Jones Bar-B-Que, Logan Gray of Discovery Coffee, and Yonni’s Doughnuts.
According to Jones, the spot is like a breakfast baby born from The Ruby and Discovery Coffee, but with an extra touch of flair.

“We wanted a space that has the same friendly vibe and attention to detail as our other spots, but with its own distinct personality,” he shared on Instagram.
You can expect a cozy yet modern look that feels equal parts homey and a little adventurous; plus, according to a video posted to Instagram, a great sound system and selection of records.

The Breakfast Shop’s menu pulls out all the stops — from its own homemade brioche buns to in-house ground meat for its signature breakfast sausage. Eggs are the star ingredient, appearing in a host of breakfast sandwiches, bowls, and more.
Gray added that speed is a major part of the vision.
“We wanted to create a place where people can get breakfast quickly without sacrificing quality,” he explained.

Running from 7 am to 4 pm, the spot has something for everyone, from the classic breakfast sandwich and lunch-friendly bites to loaded breakfast poutines and waffles. And if you’re just after a quick pick-me-up, the full lineup of coffee, lattes, and teas will hit the spot, with a kids’ menu available, too.
Much like its predecessor, Bear & Joey, The Breakfast Shop continues to embrace the versatility of brunch. Whether you’re grabbing a quick coffee and bite or sitting down for a more relaxed meal, it has something for everyone.
This spot is a welcome addition to Victoria’s vibrant brunch scene — and it’s run by two local pros who really know their way around it.
