Mount Washington ski resort is opening early thanks to record-breaking snow

Winter enthusiasts, rejoice! Vancouver Island’s beloved Mount Washington Alpine Resort is kicking off its season earlier than usual, marking its earliest opening in eight years.
Thanks to a hefty November snowfall — boosted by a bomb cyclone that drenched much of BC’s coast but delivered flurries to the mountain — the resort boasts an impressive 258-centimetre snow base.

To celebrate, Mount Washington is offering a sneak peek weekend this Saturday and Sunday, with alpine and Nordic terrain open from 9 am to 3:30 pm. Expect both the Whiskey Jack and Hawk chairlifts in operation, granting access to runs for all levels, from beginner to advanced.
However, first-time skiers, snowboarders, and families with children under six may want to hold off — the magic carpets attraction won’t be available just yet. Additionally, retail shops, rentals, and restaurants are still gearing up for the season.
For cross-country fans, the Nordic Centre at Raven Lodge will be open, offering 12 kilometres of cross-country ski trails and three snowshoe routes to explore.
The resort’s official season launch is slated for December 13, 2024, but why not dust off your gear and take advantage of this snowy head start?
It’s not the first ski resort to open early this year, either.
