A man is in custody after a stabbing that took the life of a woman and injured two others, including a toddler.

The Surrey RCMP says that on Tuesday evening, just before 9 pm, police were called after a report of a stabbing inside a residence on the 12700 blocks of 66 Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers found three people suffering from injuries.

“An adult female had critical injuries, an adult male had serious injuries, and a two-year-old child had serious but not life-threatening injuries,” reads a statement from the Surrey RCMP.

All three of the injured victims were rushed to the hospital but unfortunately, the female passed away after arrival.

The suspect reportedly fled the scene but was later located and arrested by police; he remains in custody at this time.

“The early indications are that this is an incident of family violence,” says the Surrey RCMP. “The parties involved are known to one another. There is no indication of a risk to the public as a result of this incident.”

The area surrounding the scene has also been cordoned off. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been activated and will work with the Surrey RCMP.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-4448 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
