The MLS Cup hasn’t been handed out yet, and already we’re able to look forward to preseason for the Vancouver Whitecaps next month.

The ‘Caps will begin games that matter earlier than usual next season, as they travel to New York to play the Red Bulls in the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal on February 22nd. The second leg will be played at BC Place on March 2nd.

With that in mind, preseason plans need to get bumped up. The ‘Caps will travel to Wales on January 23rd, which is sure to be music to the ears of their Welsh head coach, Carl Robinson.

“This will be a tough, competitive training camp right from day one,” the Welsh tactician said. “It’s been made very clear to all players and staff what our expectations are come January. We require nothing less than full dedication to our club and our supporters, and that starts in preseason. We have a great opportunity in front of us and everyone will be ready for the Champions League and the start of our MLS season.”

The 11-day training camp based in the county borough of The Vale of Glamorgan will include a series of matches that will be announced in the coming weeks.

Following training in Wales, Robbo’s lads will travel to Oregon for the Portland Timbers’ annual preseason tournament from February 7 to 16. Real Salt Lake and Minnesota United FC will join the Whitecaps and Timbers in the tournament.
