Vancouver Whitecaps hosting massive watch party outside BC Place for historic match

The Vancouver Whitecaps are looking to make history on Sunday in Mexico City.

For the first time in franchise history, the Whitecaps are in the Concacaf Champions Cup Final. Vancouver has had an impressive run to get to this point, defeating Mexican clubs Monterrey and UNAM before dispatching Lionel Messi and Inter Miami in the semi-final.

The only team standing in their way now is Cruz Azul, one of the top clubs in Mexico’s top league, Liga MX.

This tournament has traditionally been dominated by Liga MX clubs, and just one MLS team (Seattle Sounders in 2022) has won it in the last 25 years. Vancouver is looking to become the first Canadian team to be crowned champions of Concacaf, which comprises North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.

To mark the occasion, the Whitecaps are holding a large outdoor watch party, with the game on the big screen on Terry Fox Plaza outside BC Place. Capacity for the ticketed event is approximately 2,500, a Whitecaps FC spokesperson told Daily Hive.

Tickets are available for just $5, with all proceeds being donated to the Whitecaps FC Foundation. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. ahead of the scheduled 6 p.m. kickoff.

Expect similar rules to attending an event inside BC Place — you can’t bring your own food and beverages, and bags larger than 6.5″ x 8.5″ are not permitted.

Food and drinks, as well as Whitecaps merchandise, will be available for purchase, while rally towels and other prizes will be handed out.

For anyone not attending the watch party, the match will be streamed via OneSoccerĀ and also available on Telus channel 980.
