Free parking along White Rock’s waterfront retail village will be offered to the public starting next month to help support businesses that are struggling.
The municipal government announced this week free parking will be available at the waterfront, seven days a week, with a limit of four hours near retail, restaurants, and other businesses along Marine Drive.

There is also additional free parking for up to 14 hours in select locations, including the West Beach Parkade on Vidal Street.
This free parking period is effective between November 1, 2020 and January 31, 2021.
“It’s never been a more important time to support our local businesses,” said Darryl Walker, mayor of White Rock, in a statement.
“Whether you’re shopping, dining, walking along the Promenade or visiting the White Rock Museum and Archives, please come out and enjoy everything our seaside city has to offer.”
A recent survey by Restaurants Canada found that 45% of restaurants in BC are operating at a loss, and just 20% are breaking even. If they are able to keep their doors open, half of the restaurants surveyed believe it will take at least a year to return to profitability.
White Rock and a number of other municipalities across the region have enacted temporary flexible patio programs to help support restaurants. Some municipalities, specifically Vancouver, have extended their patio programs through the fall and winter seasons, and into next year.
