Speeding driver issued $1,150 quarantine violation ticket in Whistler

A driver who was pulled over for speeding by police in Whistler received an additional fine for breaking federal COVID-19 quarantine rules.

According to Whistler RCMP, the incident happened at approximately 12:30 am on January 30, after officers pulled over a speeding vehicle in the area of Highway 99 and the Brio subdivision.

While issuing the speeding ticket, police also learned the driver had only been in the country for the past nine days and was supposed to be in quarantine for 14 days.

As a result, the driver was issued an additional violation ticket for $1,150 under the Quarantine Act.

In total, police said that over the same weekend, they responded to seven COVID-19 complaints and issued five public health order violation tickets.
