Police are looking for answers after an unexplained death at Whistler Blackcomb Mountain.

On Thursday morning, just after 10 a.m., Sea to Sky Whistler RCMP were made aware of an incident involving an unresponsive female.

Information that RCMP received suggested that Whistler Blackcomb patrollers were notified of the situation by someone riding the Blackcomb Gondola. According to the Whistler Blackcomb Instagram page, gondola operations were temporarily paused due to a “medical emergency.”

Ski patrollers attempted to take life-saving measures before she was transported to the base of the mountain and into the care of the BC Ambulance Service.

“Despite the best efforts of all who attended and provided assistance, the female was declared deceased after arrival at the health care clinic,” Sea to Sky Whistler RCMP said.

“We are deeply saddened by what transpired today,” said Belinda Trempath, COO of Whistler Blackcomb.

“Incidents of this nature are felt by all of us, and Whistler Blackcomb’s sympathy and support are with the guest’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time,” they added.

RCMP’s investigation will take place alongside the B.C. Coroner Service and investigators are hoping to speak to anyone who might have witnessed anything around the incident leading to the death at Whistler Blackcomb.

“This is a joint statement on behalf of Whistler Blackcomb and the Sea to Sky Whistler RCMP. Out of respect for those involved, no further information will be provided.”
