Rescue effort underway to save 2 beached whales at Delta's Boundary Bay

A rescue effort is currently taking place near Centennial Park at Boundary Bay in Delta, to rescue two whales that have become stranded on the beach.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) confirmed with Daily Hive that its Mammal Response Team is on site at Boundary Bay and responding with refloatation equipment and a vessel to assess the situation.

“We would like to encourage the public to stay at least 100 meters away to ensure public safety,” said Dan Bates with the DFO.

The Vancouver Aquarium also confirmed with Daily Hive that their Marine Mammal Rescue Centre team is headed to the scene to assist with the rescue.

According to the tide chart, Vancouver’s lowest tide of the day is expected at 4:37 pm today.
