Local developer offering 99 free parking stalls to New Westminster hospital workers

Workers at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster will have access to 99 free parking stalls for their use starting this week.

Local developer Wesgroup Properties says it is making the stalls available to hospital staff, as many are now driving to work and finding that their monthly paid parking stalls are being taken. They have to circle around the parking lot for some time before being able to find an available stall.

The stalls are located within the developer’s new Brewery District neighbourhood, which is immediately adjacent to the hospital. It is anticipated 300 hospital staff members will benefit from the offer every month, and help reduce one stressful aspect with their work routine during these challenging times.

On Wednesday, to kick off the initiatives, staff are also being offered free lunches and dinners, with catering provided by Steve’s Poke Bar, Browns Social House, Freshii, and Take 5 Cafe, effectively supporting local businesses in the immediate area.

Brewery District, located next to SkyTrain’s Sapperton Station, was previously the location of Labatt’s Brewery. The master plan calls for 850 homes, 600,000 sq. ft. of office space, 140,000 sq. ft. of retail and restaurant space, including anchor tenant Save-On-Foods. The next phases of development will be considerably larger than what has already been built on the nine-acre site.
