FEATURED ON THE LISTED GUIDE
Forego the usual festive fare this Christmas and instead surprise that special someone in your life with some altogether stranger things.
Crammed full of kooky Christmas gifts that are absolutely not on anyone’s lists, the inaugural Weirdos Holiday Market takes place The Hall on Venables Street in Vancouver.
Presented by the folks who select the oddities and trinkets at local curio shop, This Monkey’s Gone to Heaven, the Weirdos Holiday Market will showcase an eclectic array of unconventional gift ideas, from the delightfully quirky to the downright macabre.
From offbeat piñatas to unusual pottery pieces that have been fused into the shape of human mouths (no, really), you’ll find just about everything you weren’t looking for but will instantly fall in love with at this awesome event
This year’s market will feature 30 artist merchants, including:
- Bonetique: Yolanda Mason’s delicate and whimsical sculptures, created using salvaged animal bones and found organic matter.
- Kwest Costume Art: Handmade steampunk and fantasy leather creations, including masks and props.
- Hannah Haines: Strange handmade crochet items, such as zombies, monster ice-cream cones, and Cyclops.
- Whisper Jewels: A unique collection of artisan jewellery that includes one-of-a-kind, handmade steel, bronze and copper rings, pendants and earrings.
This year, there will also be live entertainment on site including classic sideshow acts like sword swallowing, bizarre weightlifting, and more unbelievable feats of the human body.
You can also take part in a tarot reading session or bounce away the holiday stress on the bouncy castle.
Alongside the strange shopping, visitors to the market can also enjoy the delicious offerings of HandTaste Ferments, who will be on-site cooking up a storm. Holiday-themed beverages, suitable for all ages, will also be available for purchase.
