Vancouver Police are warning residents in some Vancouver neighbourhoods to “lock their doors and windows” as a serial break-in suspect is on the loose.
According to a release from VPD, the suspect has been involved in multiple early morning break-ins on the city’s west side. All of the break-ins have occurred between West 16th Avenue to the north and West 70th Avenue to the south, and between Oak Street to the east and Elm Street to the west.

The suspect is described as an Asian man in his 30s and has been involved in 16 break-ins since January, said VPD.
He accesses homes through unlocked doors late at night or during the early morning hours, stealing cash or other valuables left out in the open. Residents are often home when the break-ins occur. Police believe he travels through targeted neighbourhoods at night on foot.
The suspect has been seen wearing blue gloves and a medical mask during the break-ins. Police also say he wears a dark baseball cap, a dark hooded jacket, dark pants, and dark running shoes.
“We are actively working to identify and arrest this suspect, who is linked to break-ins throughout Marpole, Kerrisdale, Arbutus Ridge, Oakridge and Shaughnessey,” said VPD Constable Tania Visintin in a release.
“Until we find him, we’re asking people to take extra precautions and to call police immediately if you encounter him.”
Police say the most recent break-in took place around 3:30 a.m. at a residence near Marguerite Street and West 41st Avenue.
VPD has increased patrols in neighbourhoods and continues to take other investigative steps.
“This brazen behaviour is concerning, because it’s occurring when people are at home in their beds,” noted Visintin.
“Although nobody has been hurt, the fact this suspect is entering homes at night is frightening.”
Anyone who encounters the suspect committing a crime is asked to call 9-1-1 immediately. Anyone who can identify the man is asked to call 604-717-0610.
