Vancouver Police Department is hiring and you could make over $85K to start

Oct 2 2025, 6:35 pm

The Vancouver Police Department is continuing its search for individuals to join its team of police officers, and they’re offering a competitive starting wage.

B.C.’s largest municipal police agency posted on its social media channels that those looking for a career filled with “excitement and purpose” can find it at the VPD.

“Your workplace may be the streets of Vancouver or the water surrounding it, a local school or community policing centre, at the end of a police dog leash or undercover in the drug world, at the helm of a boat or an armoured response vehicle, in a crime lab or in the online world, on horseback or motorcycle,” said VPD online.

“The choices are many and no two days will ever look the same.”

Those hired to fill the vacant positions will be offered a starting salary of $85,392, and that can grow to $121,992 within four years.

Officers have access to gyms located inside all police buildings, as well as career and mental health support, and an athletic therapist and physiotherapist on staff. There is also a comprehensive benefits plan for officers.

Applicants must be Canadian Citizens or permanent residents who are at least 19 years old.

Hopeful candidates don’t require any prior police training; however, they must hold a Grade 12 diploma or equivalent and have a minimum of 30 academic post-secondary credits.

There are also several physical health measurements that candidates will be expected to meet.

“Majority of our officers come from all walks of life,” a spokesperson previously told Daily Hive.

In-house courses and advanced programs at the Canadian Police College and JIBC are offered to develop skills.

“VPD members also train annually at our state-of-the-art tactical training centre, which includes an indoor firearms range and force options gymnasium,” the VPD adds.

The department is holding two in-person information sessions on Saturday, Oct. 11 and Sunday, Oct. 12, for people interested in learning more about applying to become a police officer.

There is also a one-on-one session with a recruiter and a run with a recruiter session planned for this month.
