A Dodge Charger driver got nabbed for speeding, but there was a surprise for one of the Richmond RCMP officers involved.
The speeding incident occurred on Sept. 20 when a Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit officer clocked a vehicle travelling 99 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.
The surprise? The responding officer recalled stopping the exact same vehicle in 2024 on Highway 91. The only difference is that the driver in this recent speeding incident was the passenger in the 2024 stop.

“The vehicle was impounded for excessive speed, and the driver received a violation ticket in the amount of $368, plus the additional cost of towing, impound, and driver premium points,” Richmond RCMP says.
“The vehicle, having been impounded twice for high-risk offences within two consecutive calendar years, could now face an extended impound period of 30 days,” Richmond RCMP adds.
“It’s unfortunate this driver did not appear to learn from the previous violation and impound of the vehicle,” Sergeant Eric Baskette of the Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit said in a statement.
“This type of driving behaviour puts all road users at risk, which is why we will continue to be out there conducting enforcement,” the RCMP says.
“As part of the commitment to road safety, Richmond RCMP will be conducting increased enforcement along Highway 91 and east Richmond throughout the month of September.”
Do you think the punishment fits the crime for the speeding Richmond driver, considering the 2024 experience?
