Traffic in Vancouver is busy at the best of times, but a surprise concert by Daniel Caesar on Tuesday afternoon took things to the next level of chaos.
Thousands of people turned up at John Hendry Park in East Vancouver on Sept. 30 for an open-air performance by the award-winning Canadian singer.
Caesar announced in a brief Instagram video just before 4 p.m. on Tuesday that he would be performing at 5 p.m.
While fans of the Grammy winner were stoked by the surprise concert, residents in the neighbourhood around the park were less than enthused.

“I called non-emergency police to get some traffic control in the area,” posted a resident on Facebook. “My son and I almost got hit walking down the street. An ambulance was also trying to get through my street, but couldnāt because people were blocking the way with nowhere to go.”
Hordes of fans tried different techniques to catch a glimpse of Caesar and to hear his performance.

While not everyone enjoyed the traffic headaches caused by the free concert, some acknowledged that it was a nice gesture by the artist.
“Daniel Caesar is a real one for having a free concert at a random Vancouver park,” read a post on X after the show.
