Charges have been laid after a man followed a woman in Vancouver’s Olympic Village and threatening her with a knife.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says that the incident occurred on March 9, just before 11 pm.

The woman involved shared her story on social media, saying that she saw the suspect attack another victim on a SkyTrain at Olympic Village Station. The man, who was carrying a knife, allegedly chased her from Olympic Village to her nearby gym.

Police confirmed that the victim was “followed by a man holding a knife.”

“The victim was able to get to a nearby business and lock the door behind her and was able to call police,” VPD Constable Tania Visintin tells Daily Hive in an email. “The suspect was pacing outside of the business, pointing the knife at the victim through the glass door.”

Visintin says that the suspect, Naseem Yaqzan, was arrested nearby. He was later charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm by Crown counsel.
