In a release on Tuesday, VPD Const. Jason Doucette said the incident happened around 7:30 pm at the intersection of Melville Street and Burrard Street, and involved two men who were known to each other.

One of the men allegedly attacked the other with a weapon before fleeing, and the victim – a 47-year-old Vancouver man – jumped into a taxi and “got himself to the hospital for emergency treatment.”

Doucette said police understand that there may have been a couple who tried to assist in the situation and would like to hear from them.

“This is a busy area with people coming and going from the Skytrain and local businesses,” he added.

Anyone who may have witnessed this assault, or has information about the incident, is asked to call detectives in the VPD’s Major Crime Section at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
