VPD make arrest in connection with sexual assault in West End
After a woman reported that an unknown man followed her into her West End apartment building and sexually assaulted her this weekend, VPD now say they have arrested a suspect in connection with the case.
In a statement, police said that a 34-year-old Vancouver man has been arrested and taken into custody. “The suspect will remain in custody while the investigation continues,” they added.
The incident took place around 3 am on Saturday morning.
“Tips from the public were crucial in helping to identify the suspect,” police said.
However, they added “the suspect’s identity cannot be released until charges have been approved by Crown counsel.”
They noted that investigators are anticipating charges for sexual assault and robbery and that the incident appeared to be isolated.
Police have not revealed the severity of the victim’s injuries, or her current condition.
