Casino-themed donut shop opening in former Metro Vancouver Pizza Hut location
Vegas Donuts is opening a new home for its retro-inspired treats in a familiar-looking Metro Vancouver building, and fans won’t have to wait long to check it out.
Dished can confirm that the popular retro-themed donut shop is opening its third location inside a former Pizza Hut at the corner of Hastings Street and Gamma Avenue in Burnaby.
Mike McBean, co-owner of Vegas Donuts, revealed that the new family-friendly shop will feature a larger space and a casino atmosphere.

“We want to turn it into Metro Vancouver’s premier donut destination,” said McBean. “We’re all Canadian-owned and are always looking to open new locations. The Burnaby Heights location is great, with lots of traffic and a neighbourhood that we like.”
A colourful Vegas Donuts van is currently parked in front of the former Pizza Hut, which closed in 2017.
The van acts as a beacon for local residents and commuters along the busy stretch of Hastings Street, with the tasty treats set to come starting on the target opening day of Wednesday, Oct. 1.

“We’re planning an expanded menu in Burnaby,” explained McBean, who opened the first Vegas Donuts on Knight Street in Vancouver with his brother Steve in 2024. A second location opened in Maple Ridge in January.
“There will be comfort food like donuts, coffee, hot dogs, soup, and other menu items. We’ll also be serving coffee from Cuppa Joe Coffee Roasters.”

McBean added that there will be a private section for kids’ parties at the new Hastings and Gamma shop, and that the expanded menu will also be introduced at its two other locations in the future.
For those unfamiliar, Vegas Donuts is inspired by McBean’s grandparents’ donut store in the 1960s. It serves a variety of donuts made fresh all day long with toppings like caramel popcorn, gummy bears, marshmallows, and more.
