Vancouver Whitecaps acquire new player who plays for Canada internationally
The Vancouver Whitecaps have a new player.
Kwasi Poku is on his way to Vancouver, following a transfer from Belgian side RWDM Brussels. The 23-year-old Brampton, Ont. native has signed a contract through the 2027-28 MLS season, with a club option for 2028-29.
Poku plays for Canada internationally, appearing in a match for the men’s national team for the first time in October 2024.
The 6-foot-3 striker came up through the Toronto FC academy before starring with Forge FC in Hamilton. His transfer to Belgium in 2024 was a Canadian Premier League record fee at the time.
The move comes following Sebastian Berhalter’s departure to England, but this isn’t a move to replace the talented midfielder. Whitecaps CEO and sporting director Axel Schuster is looking to find a Berhalter replacement in a separate deal.
Poku scored six goals in 31 appearances with RWDM Brussels, which followed 12 goal contributions across 22 appearances in 2024 with Forge FC.

The Whitecaps are at the top of the table in the MLS Western Conference, with a 10-3-3 record. They’re set to play their first game at BC Place since April on Saturday, with a massive crowd expected for their match against LAFC.
