City of Vancouver preparing for "freezing" temperatures heading into weekend

With a “chance of freezing temperatures and wet snow mixing with rain into the weekend,” the City of Vancouver said it is “prepared to respond” to the forecasted conditions.

“Currently, wet snow mixing with rain overnight Friday into Saturday morning is forecasted, with minimal road slush,” the city said in a release. “Cold and likely freezing overnight temperatures are anticipated Saturday through Monday, while daytime temperatures will remain mild.”

Although weekend snowfall accumulations “are anticipated to be minimal, staff and salting/plow trucks are readied for deployment with a focus on keeping arterial routes, walking and cycling routes, and hills free of ice.”

Residents sleeping outside are also “urged to visit Powell Street Getaway warming centre or one of the extreme weather shelters which are open across the city,” the city said.
