Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Season Finale: Zarathustra

What: As the VSO’s 100th anniversary season draws to a close, Maestro Otto Tausk celebrates the VSO centenary in a concert that looks to the past, present, and future: Schubert’s Rosamunde Overture was the very first piece performed by the VSO in January of 1919; the North American première of renowned Dutch composer Michel van der Aa’s Concerto for Violin and Cello is performed by VSO Concertmaster Nicholas Wright and Dutch cellist Harriet Krijgh; and also sprach Zarathustra, a grand orchestral showpiece that shines a light on the talents of the incredible musicians of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

Chromeo

Chromeo/Live Nation

What: Montreal’s electro-funk duo Chromeo are coming to Vancouver with a live band this summer. David “Dave 1” Macklovich and Patrick “P-Thugg” Gemayel will be taking to the stage at Malkin Bowl in Stanley Park on Friday, June 7. Special guests will be joining the pair who were recently nominated for the 2019 Juno for Group of the Year award. At the concert, you can expect to hear tracks like “Bad Decision” and “Don’t Sleep” from Chromeo’s fifth studio album Head Over Heels, which dropped last year.

What: Hosanna by seminal French Canadian playwright Michel Tremblay shines light on the fear of change, identity, and the reluctance to release the illusion of self. Aging drag queen Hosanna, a man wanting to be a woman, wanting to be Elizabeth Taylor’s Cleopatra, with her live-in partner Curiette, a going-to-seed leather stud, faces a Halloween night feeling like an outsider in her own skin. What: Beer and cider lovers are invited to come to the PNE Fairgrounds on June 8 and 9 for the 10th annual year of good times, filled with music, food, art, and of course, tons of craft beer. This year’s festival-goers can expect 100+ craft breweries and cideries (pouring 300+ beverages), live music, buskers, and 20+ food trucks.

Eternal Theatre Collective presents: bare

What: Based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, “bare” is a contemporary pop opera about coming out and growing up. The story follows a group of students at a Catholic boarding school as they grapple with issues of sexuality, identity, and the future. “bare” is a provocative, fresh, and utterly honest look at the dangers of baring your soul, and the consequences of continuing to hide.

Steveston Wine Fest 2019

What: The sixth annual wine fest by O’Hare’s GastroPub & Liquor Store will feature over 80 boutique wines from local and international wineries, as well as delicious food samples from local Steveston Merchants.
