In 2016, Noah released his first book Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood, which became an instant New York Times bestseller.

What: The 88th annual BC Highland Games & Scottish Festival features a Friday night beer garden with live Celtic music, a kilted/tartan run, and open pro piobaireachd. Then enjoy a full day on Saturday with piping, dancing, caber tossing, live Celtic music, kids activities, artisans, food and the massed pipe bands.

The Price is Right Live

What: The live edition of one of North America’s longest-running game shows is coming to Vancouver and you could be their next contestant. This summer, The Price is Right Live will be coming to the River Rock Casino for several live shows. Contestants will get the chance to play games like Plinko, Cliffhangers, The Big Wheel, and the fabulous Showcase. Contestants can win cash, appliances, vacations, and possibly even a new car.

Langara College Community Day presented by RBC Royal Bank

What: A community-wide celebration, the day is part of the College’s Beyond 49 campaign, an 18-month long celebration of their 49th anniversary on West 49th Avenue. Held on Saturday, June 15 from 11 am till 5 pm on Langara College’s main campus in Vancouver, the event will also feature live demonstrations, a kids zone, activities from Langara departments, prizes, and so much more

Local Canadian rock legends 54-40 will headline the main stage with support from folk/pop singer-songwriter and CBC Searchlight Winner Desirée Dawson and other local bands, while musical production Rockin’ Robin will feature alongside fellow family-friendly performers on the Intercultural Stage.

What: Vancouver’s ever-popular Car Free Day is returning for another summer in several of the city’s most popular neighbourhoods. BREAKOUT 2019

What: ASAP Rocky and Rae Sremmurd will be headlining the all hip-hop festival, which returns to the PNE Amphitheatre on June 15 and 16. Joining the headliners this summer are Lil Baby, Gunna, Rich the Kid, Lil Skies, Ybn Cordae, Saweetie, Night Lovell, Yung Tory, Lil Berete, Illyminiachi, Ninetyfour, Angst, and Anklegod.

This year’s festival is an all-ages event. Attractions include a VIP section, a food truck area, 19+ bars, and an alcohol-free zone. According to organizers, festival tickets will also include access to Playland.

Sunday, June 16

Seek the Peak

What: Seek the Peak is back for its 16th year, inviting racers to take on the challenge to climb Grouse Mountain. At this event, racers test their fitness, stamina, and mental strength to raise funds for BC Cancer Foundation’s work towards the fight against breast cancer. This 13 km race starts in Ambleside Park and ends at the peak of Grouse Mountain on Sunday, June 16. The event runs from 8:15 to 11 am.

With the purchase of a ticket, you get a Skyride download with a bib, race bib, spectator ticket, shuttle between Grouse Mountain and Ambleside Park, medal, hydration and food. A celebration and an award ceremony will also be waiting for you across the finish line.

Lafarge Lake Annual Free Fishing Day

What: A free family-friendly day of fishy fun and prizes during BC’s free fishing weekend – when anglers can fish BC’s waters without a licence. The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC will be stocking the lake with rainbow trout in the morning, kids are welcome to assist the hatchery staff during the stocking. There will be a netted area for new fishermen who have no experiences in catching trout. Experts will be on site to teach participants new techniques on catching rainbow trout. Other activities include fly tying, casting lessons and salmon raffle. Some fantastic prizes will be given away at the end of the event.

Alberto Giacometti: A Line Through Time

What: This unique exhibition is focused on the art of Alberto Giacometti, renowned in the twentieth century for his sculpture, painting, drawing and design. The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to examine the breadth of his practice and to see Giacometti’s place among his contemporaries in Paris and London in the post-war period.
