Winter Festival – Skate for a Cause
What: Winter Festival – Skate for a Cause takes place in the north parking lot at Guildford Town Centre and will see the site become what organizers describe as a “winter wonderland,” complete with an outdoor skating rink, food trucks, and a life-size snow globe. The event is being presented in partnership with the Surrey Hospital Foundation to support their Children’s Health Centre campaign.

What: Nina Wilder and Jan Bannister host Comedy Feud at Fox Cabaret on February 7. Comics from different generations perform to win the audience’s favour.

UBC Thunderbirds Courtside Festival
What: The UBC Thunderbirds men’s and women’s basketball teams play in the fourth annual Courtside Basketball festival at the historic War Memorial Gym against the visiting Winnipeg Wesmen. The fourth annual Courtside Festival also features a pre-game festival, live half time shows, entertainment during breaks in play, basketball skills games, photo ops, and more.

PuSh International Performing Arts Festival 2020
What: PuSh International Performing Arts Festival, Vancouver’s mid-winter festival, returns for its 16th year of groundbreaking work in the live performing arts until February 9. Vancouver Jewish Book Festival – A Sense of Place

Coastal Lunar Lanterns
What: The Asian-Canadian Special Events Association has created an iconic installation for Lunar New Year. Until February 9, eight gigantic lanterns designed by Indigenous artists will be set up and illuminated at the Jack Poole Plaza, using the mountains and water as a backdrop.

Skate Plaza at The Shipyards
What: The Shipyards’ large, covered outdoor plaza has been converted into a free ice rink for the season. The rink will be open to skating seven days a week from 12 to 7 pm.
The skateable surface is approximately 20,000 sq. ft., including the floor area of the 12,000-sq-ft plaza and the adjacent 8,000-sq-ft summertime water spray area, both of which are covered by a retractable roof. Skaters can either bring their own skates or rent a pair of skates on-site for $7, although quantities are limited. Helmets and skating aids are free.

The 2020 Vancouver International Boat Show
What: The 2020 Vancouver International Boat Show will include more than 250 exhibitors and over 125 presentations and workshops led by boating experts. This year’s event is taking place at two locations: BC Place and a floating show at Granville Island. Complimentary shuttle buses and water ferries will also be operating between the two venues.
Twiggy, a famous water-skiing squirrel, will be one of the highlights of the Vancouver International Boat Show. According to organizers, Twiggy will be performing on a daily basis during the event, while viewers also learn about water safety, waterskiing, and simply watch a water-skiing squirrel ski around her pool.

Bells and Whistles’ “A Big Night at the Oscars”
What: If you head to this Fraser Street spot to view the Oscars, a $10 entry fee will get you a popcorn, a “paparazzi-inspired photo shoot,” and a ballot to vote for your predictions. Whoever gets the most guesses correct will win half the ticket proceeds, and the other half will be donated to the BC Hospitality Foundation.

Monday Nights
What: Monday Nights by 6th Man Collective and The Theatre Centre is an interactive basketball and theatre mashup. The show tells the story of five men who played basketball together every Monday night for over a decade. Along the way, friendships were born, bonds were hardened, and triumphs and heartbreaks were shared. Attendees are invited to get on the court and learn some skills while experiencing the power of the game for themselves. All ages and skill levels are welcome.
