Fall gets a head start in Metro Vancouver with wet weather on the way

Summer is winding down, and the Vancouver weather forecast this week is already giving off fall vibes.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is forecasting that the region will experience a high chance of showers throughout the week.

There are some bright spots to look forward to mid-week, but you may want to keep your rain jackets nearby as the weekend returns.

The Vancouver forecast begins with a 30 per cent chance of showers and drizzle on Monday, Sept. 8 and Tuesday, Sept. 9. Temperatures will hover around the low 20°C.

But the chance of showers climbs up to 60 per cent for the weekend, with highs of 19°C on Saturday and 20°C on Sunday.

Overnight lows for the region will dip down to 14°C this week.

Rain in the Vancouver forecast will continue to help clear up the city’s air quality, which was ranked as the worst in the world last week.

ECCC noted in a now-ended special air quality statement that the cause of hazy conditions is due to wildfire smoke from fires burning just east of Hope, near Whistler, and a large complex of fires in the Cariboo region, as well as those in the U.S.

An out-of-control wildfire in B.C.’s Fraser Valley and Thompson-Nicola region even forced the closure of a section of Coquihalla Highway, though the busy highway has since reopened.
