Vancouver residents should be on the lookout for sneaky parking ticket scam

Vancouver residents who received a text scam message about an overdue parking ticket are being warned to avoid clicking any links inside it.
The City of Vancouver has posted an alert about text messages requesting payment for overdue parking tickets.
According to the City, it would not notify people of fines through texting, emailing, or social media.

“These text messages are not from us,” said the City on its Parking in Vancouver website page. “Do not click the link or provide payment details. Report these messages to your cellphone provider and then delete them.”
Several Vancouver residents, including those without vehicles, have shared that they have received the parking ticket scam text messages.

“Yep! I received this today… blocked and deleted,” added another commenter on X.
Another user wondered why such scams are still allowed to happen.
“How is it our government is so impotent about stopping such scams???… Been going on for YEARS!!!” said a Facebook commenter.
The City of Vancouver has previously warned of similar parking ticket payment scams.
It also clarified that its only notification methods for parking tickets are placing a ticket on a vehicle or mailing a ticket to a registered vehicle owner.
