MILA Plant-Based, an iconic Vancouver vegan restaurant that has been a go-to for the city’s plant-based community, is announcing its closure.

The restaurant, located in Vancouver Chinatown at 185 Keefer St., is calling it quits after five years, and its last day of service will be Nov. 14.

MILA describes itself as “Plant-based, flavour-focused, internationally inspired, premium casual dining.”

“Sadly, this is a closing announcement,” MILA’s Instagram post said.

“We’ve decided that after five great years, it’s time for MILA’s journey to come to an end.”

The Vancouver vegan restaurant added that it has been “the biggest joy of our lives to bring MILA to life and watch it grow.”

The restaurant welcomes its fans to celebrate the last five years with it before its Nov. 14 closure.

Within 30 minutes of MILA announcing its closure on Instagram, the post had already received nearly 70 comments from fans of the Vancouver vegan restaurant expressing their sadness and disappointment.

The announcement marks another closure in what has been a rough year for vegan establishments in the city, which one of MILA’s followers expressed.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we lose all vegan restaurants and vegan food items in grocery stores by like 2032.. I’m so sad.”

Another user remarked, “You were the best vegan restaurant Vancouver had to offer.”

I only got to go once, and the sushi was some of the best I’ve ever had. I wish I could eat it again,” said another one of MILA’s followers.

MILA was the sister restaurant to another popular Vancouver spot located just around the block, Virtuous Pie.

On that note, shortly after the MILA news was shared on Instagram, it was also announced that the Virtuous Pie Victoria location would also be closing.

Thankfully, it appears that the Vancouver Virtuous Pie location will remain open.
