New non-stop, direct flights from Vancouver to Costa Rica

Sun seekers attempting to escape Vancouver’s wintertime gloom will have a new stop-less flight to a coastal Central American destination to choose from starting this year.

A new non-stop, direct flight service operated by Sunwing Airlines between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Liberia in Costa Rica will commence on December 23, 2018 and operate on a seasonal basis until March 31, 2019. Flights to Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport will depart weekly on Sundays.

This will be Vancouver’s first and only direct service to Costa Rica, and it is expected to use the new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

“We are thrilled to welcome Sunwing’s new service to Liberia, Costa Rica, which marks YVR’s first non-stop, direct flight to this popular Latin American destination,” said Anne Murray, YVR’s Vice President of Airline Business Development and Public Affairs, in a statement.

“Sunwing’s new service to Costa Rica will support our mission to connect British Columbia proudly to the world, providing passengers with an exciting opportunity to visit a great country—known for its amazing biodiversity, incredible attractions and friendly people.”

Liberia is located on the northwestern Pacific coast of Costa Rica and is one of the country’s top tourism hubs. The new flight service coincides with the opening of the new Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Costa Rica in Liberia later this year.

This follows last year’s launch of Sunwing’s non-stop, direct flight service from YVR to Montego Bay, Jamaica.
