Vancouver Titans cancel live esports matches at Rogers Arena

On Tuesday, the Overwatch League (OWL) announced the cancellation of all live events for the remainder of the 2020 season.

Shortly afterwards, the Vancouver Titans confirmed that live professional esports would no longer be taking place at Rogers Arena.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the OWL stated that teams would move to a home-and-away format, similar to that of traditional sports. It was later announced that the Titans would host two weekends of live matches, called Homestand Weekends.

As a result of the virus, both weekends, which were scheduled for May 16 to 17 and July 4 and 5, have been cancelled.

“While this outcome is disappointing, the health and safety of all fans, players, staff, and guests is paramount and we fully support this decision,” says Tim Holloway, Esports Director at Aquilini Entertainment.

Fans that purchased tickets for the May Homestand will receive a full refund.

Holloway advises that the refund process may take up to several weeks due to the “volume of event cancellations” with Ticketmaster.
