Temperatures are dropping in the Metro Vancouver weather forecast for the first full week of October, and you may want to bundle up when you head out.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), temperatures at the start of the week will hit a high of 16°C on Monday, Oct. 5, and up to 20°C inland.

However, those temperatures will start to dip as the week progresses, with a chance of showers and down to 9°C overnight on Friday, and just 6°C overnight on Saturday.

According to ECCC, the latter temperature would be the coolest in recent memory.

“There was an overnight low of 8.5°C on Sept. 26 and 27, so if the 6°C occurs, it would be the coolest,” explained Chloe Katsademas, an ECCC meteorologist, about the Vancouver temperatures.

“The monthly climate mean is 8.6°C overnight for October.”

Katsademas added that a weak ridging pattern could lead to some fog in Metro Vancouver to start the week.

“There will be fog diurnally, plus there has been lots of fog in the Strait of Georgia the last two days. Based on the current pattern, it looks like it will stick around and continue for the next couple of days.

“Foggy, low stratus clouds could increase with possible drizzle. The pattern is expected to stick around until Thursday.”

ECCC is forecasting periods of drizzle on Monday evening into Tuesday morning, and then showers to return just before the start of the long weekend.

“On Thursday, the pattern shifts to a more upper trough,” stated Katsademas. “The northern B.C. coast is more impacted by the possible storm, but it will change the flow in the Vancouver area.

“That’s where the chance of troughing could occur and could bring a chance of showers.”
