Police are investigating a stabbing in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside that left a man with serious injuries.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says that the incident occurred on Tuesday this week, at approximately 7:30 pm.

Officers were called to Hastings Street near Main Street in response to a 45-year-old allegedly being stabbed. The victim was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries but, fortunately, is in stable condition.

Constable Tania Visintin, VPD spokesperson, says that police believe multiple bystanders were present at the time.

“The incident happened early in the evening,” she says in an emailed statement. “So we believe there could be several bystanders who may have seen his horrible offence.”

The suspect is described as a white man with a heavy build, who was wearing dark clothing and a dark ball cap at the time of the incident.

“The investigation is still in its early stages. Investigators have yet to determine the relationship between the suspect and victim,” Visintin adds.

Anyone who witnessed this incident, or anyone with information, is asked to call VPD investigators at 604-717-2541 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
